Q: What made you interested in the smart home tech industry?

A: Smart home technology has always been something I’m excited about. Not only can it really turn a house into a home, but it’s something that can be shared with those closest to you. Most people don’t realize the additional accessibility and security you can have when you bring smart home technology into your home. Depending on the devices, you can monitor when the kids come home from school or a visitor arrives or keep a welcoming and secure environment with climate and lighting schedules. Plus, many components can be controlled with an app on your smartphone or tablet, allowing you to control access to certain features (or users) while away from home, or to check if you forgot to turn off a light in the other room after you’ve gone to bed.

Q: What do you love most about your job at ADS?

A: One of the best things about working at ADS are my colleagues and the shop dogs! We have an incredibly supportive team here at ADS. From system designers to technicians, knowledge is always being shared to help us better assist our homeowners and businesses. Plus, our canine supervisors are always doing rounds to keep up morale!

Q: What smart home tech device can you not live without and why?

A: Two devices I can’t live without are smart lighting controls and smart thermostats. Being able to integrate them together and schedule automation shortcuts is extremely helpful because I can walk into a comfortable and well-lit home after a long day at work.

Q: How do you decompress after a hard week?

A: After a hard week I’ll always find a way to spend time outside. Whether it’s hiking or camping, nothing beats getting outdoors and exploring beautiful scenery with friends. I’ve recently started exploring Mount Charleston and the surrounding areas. Nevada has an expansive network of trails and hiking areas so it’s been a refreshing experience to grab a couple friends, pack up supplies, and choose a random destination on the map!

Q: What are you currently reading or watching? What’s it about and why do you like it?

A: Currently, I’m reading Machines in the Head by Anna Kavan. It’s a collection of experimentally written short works based on the author’s own experiences growing up in the 1930’s and 40’s. I don’t have as much time to read an entire novel, and a collection of short essays and stories makes it easy to pick up a book every few days without having to refresh my memory on a story line. Plus, I enjoy authors with unique and challenging writing styles as it allows me to immerse myself in their storytelling and experiences.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

A: When I’m not working, I love to travel and visit family and friends. My family lives on the East Coast just outside of Salem, Massachusetts so I always enjoy visiting home and travelling to the surrounding areas. It’s very refreshing to spend time with them at the local beaches or exploring the different cities and towns with their unique shops and restaurants.
