Matthew John Dalangauskas has been a vital member of the ADS family for nearly 10 years now, since 2014. With expertise as a custom lighting and programming specialist and skilled project manager, Matthew has consistently demonstrated his talent and dedication. Recently, his outstanding work led to Acoustic Design Systems being selected as Christopher Homes’ subcontractor of the week. Matthew’s passion for smart home technology blossomed during his college years, where he explored music and theater while working in the lighting department. He has since become a true talent in the industry, making him an invaluable asset to the ADS team.
Q: What made you interested in the smart home tech industry?
Originally it started with audio but now it is lighting as well. I have always loved theaters and how sound has the ability to bring you into the moment. I especially love the bass. During college, lighting was something that I loved doing for theater. I appreciate how lighting plays a huge factor in how we live in a space and its power to create moods.
Q: What smart home tech device can you not live without and why?
Besides Internet and Wi-Fi, I would never be able to live without my Control4 home automation. It has completely transformed the way I live. The convenience of controlling everything from my phone or a button on the wall is simply remarkable. My favorite is when it is time to go to bed, I have a “goodnight” button that powers off all of the media on the first floor and sets a night light, making those late-night snack runs much easier and safer.
Q: What do you love most about your job at ADS?
Firstly, I love the incredible opportunities that come my way. Working at ADS allows me to be a part of some truly remarkable projects, where I get to utilize innovative equipment in homes that many can only dream of. Secondly, I love the people I get to work with. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals who are just as enthusiastic and driven as I am creates an inspiring and motivating environment.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I like to escape from my everyday routine and give myself a challenge by racing in my built simrig on iRacing and invest in my newfound love of 3D printing.
Q: What are you currently reading or watching? What is it about and why do you like it?
Two shows I am currently watching are “Manifest” and “Welcome to Eden.” “Manifest” follows the story of a commercial airliner that mysteriously reappears after being missing for five years. The premise instantly reminded me of the show “Fringe.” With elements of mystery, investigation, and, of course, science fiction, “Manifest” has been keeping me on the edge of my seat. “Welcome to Eden” is a Spanish thriller that centers around a group of young adults attending a party on a secluded island. However, they soon realize that the enticing paradise harbors dangerous secrets and traps. As a fan of Spanish sci-fi shows, I am drawn to the suspenseful and mysterious nature of “Welcome to Eden.”
Q: How do you decompress after a hard week?
When it comes to decompressing after a challenging week, nothing beats chilling with the family.
